Workshops And Events : Guided Meditations
Meditation is an ancient and deep form of relaxation, that
helps you to calm the mind. Meditation has been practiced (and
still is) by many different people with many different backgrounds
from around the world.
There are different types of mediation.
Prayer is probably the most common one. There are Zen, Buddhist
and Taoist meditation from the Eastern tradition, Transcendental
Meditation, and Mindful Meditation.
In the dictionary, meditating
is described as:
- to engage in contemplation or reflection;
- to focus one's
thoughts on: reflect on or ponder over;
- to plan or project
in the mind: intend, purpose.
Meditation can be done by anybody at any time.
If you have never (consciously) meditated before, you might be
under the impression that meditation is something mystical. The
opposite is true though: it can be as simple as counting your
breath, doing art work, counting your steps and even doing the
dishes can be a form of meditation.
As long as you are doing something in a mindful way, meaning
that you are "in the moment" and concentrating on
what you are doing, you can basically call it meditation.
The
purpose of meditation is exactly that: to learn to live in
the moment, free of worries from the past or the future.
You can quiet your mind, so you can get in touch with your intuitive
side more, and rid yourself of thoughts that are fearful.
Scientific research has been proven that mediation will create
Alpha waves in your brain. There are four different types of
brain wave patterns which seem to have connected links to levels
of consciousness. These four types are Alpha, Beta, Theta and
Delta.
The different brain wave patterns each have their specific
function, they are not all present at the same time. Delta
waves only occur during the deep stages of sleep. Theta waves
occur in light sleep and drowsiness (when you are just about
to fall asleep). Alpha waves occur when there is an effortless
alertness, and relaxation. Beta waves occur when there is
focus, concentration and when someone is highly stressed.
When you create more Alpha waves using meditation, you relax
body, mind and emotions, and promote yourself to relax and
self-heal. There are more and more doctors nowadays who prescribe
meditation to improve overall health on different levels: Physical,
Emotional, Mental and Spiritual. It has been scientifically
proven that meditation can help for example to lower the blood
pressure, relax the muscles, and can help people with asthma
to breathe easier and relieve insomnia, to just name a few.
You
can practice meditation at home, or come to our meditation
evenings.
